What I cover:
These days, as a journalist and overnight web editor for RNZ, based in London, I generally cover breaking news - anything from politics to weather to strange auctions overseas. In my previous role, as a broadcast journalist, I focussed on covering corrections and justice-related issues. I'm passionate about uncovering stories that haven't been told and, if I've done my job right, making it clear why you should care.
My background:
I'm a second-generation New Zealander, born and raised in Lower Hutt after my parents emigrated from India in the eighties.
Prior to working at RNZ, I was the deputy news director (and previously a senior reporter) at the Wairarapa Times-Age, covering health and justice. Before that I was completing my Master of Journalism, following my first reporting gig at NZME covering education. My thesis in 2020 examined how menstruation was portrayed in news and other media.
I've also worked as a banker and for the Ministry of Justice and have a design degree. Outside of work I have a wide range of rotating interests, but some constants I'll never give up are walking, the beach, and reading.
