Distinguished Spanish pianist Javier Perianes makes a welcome return to our shores this month, part of a seven-week tour across Australia and New Zealand.
He’s performing concerts with both the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (17 and 19 July) and the Auckland Philharmonia (7 August).

Perianes told RNZ Concert host David Morriss about the pieces he'll be playing. For the NZSO concerts, there will be two works: Ravel's 'Piano Concerto in G' and 'Nights in the Gardens of Spain' by Manuel de Falla.
These pieces together in the same concert "work beautifully", says Perianes.
"In de Falla's piece we find a lot of French quotes, even French 'smells' or French 'scents'. And in the Ravel ... there is some Spanish glimpse in the first [movement]."
For the Auckland Philharmonia concert on 7 August, Perianes will play Saint-Saens' 'Piano Concerto No 5, Egyptian'.
