Schools still deciding on new donations scheme

From First Up, 5:20 am on 9 October 2019

Only a third of schools so far have signed up to the government's school donations scheme. Schools that sign up receive a hundred and fifty dollars per pupil of government funding, but as part of the deal, they are no longer able to ask for parents' donations. Seventeen hundred schools - totalling 500-thousand pupils - are eligible for the scheme, which applies only to schools with a decile rating between one and seven. Some principals, such as Greg Lewis from Russley School in Christchurch, are concerned that if they do sign up to the scheme, they might be worse off. He spoke with our reporter, Harry Lock, about why he's still deciding whether to get onboard.
