Two trucks have collided on a rural Auckland road, leaving one person with critical injuries.

Police said the serious crash happened on Kahikatea Flat Rd in Dairy Flat shortly after 2.30pm on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said one person was critically injured and emergency services were at the scene.

Road closures were in place between Kaihikatea Flat Rd and the intersection of Selman and Austin Roads.

Police were urging motorists to use alternative routes as road closures could be in place for some time.

The Serious Crash Unit was in attendance and an investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the crash, the spokesperson said.
