Health New Zealand is seeking feedback on a proposed model for adult palliative care services.
Debbie Holdsworth, the agency's director of funding, community, and mental health, said the project was aimed at improving quality of life, reducing inequities, and ensuring all New Zealanders have access high quality care at the end of life that is holistic, culturally responsive, whānau-centred, and seamless.
She said the proposed model will have:
- An increased emphasis on holistic care, aligning with people's goals
- Support for whānau carers
- Integration of primary and specialist palliative care services with flexible transitions, proactive and collaborative care planning for the end of life
- Regional and national approaches, to ensure consistent and equitable access to services, and consistent outcomes.
Health New Zealand said it wants to hear people's thoughts on the proposed core components of primary and specialist palliative care services, the overall model, and what change is the most important.
