Petone train station is closed and cordons are in place, as police investigate an incident in the area.
Police were alerted to the incident at about 6.25pm Sunday.
Train services could be affected for several hours, and commuters should check the Metlink app or website for updates.
A Metlink spokesperson said trains on the Hutt Valley and Wairarapa lines were being replaced by buses between Taitā and Wellington.
Train services continue to run between Upper Hutt and Taitā .
The spokesperson was unable to confirm when train services would resume.
Cordons are in place and Korokoro Road overbridge has been closed to traffic.
