A helicopter is searching the coastline between Sumner and Godley Head for missing Christchurch teenager Marley.

The 17-year-old was last seen in the suburb of Scarborough on the afternoon of Friday, 26 September.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jo Carolan said the helicopter would be used in the search on Monday.

"Today we are conducting an aerial search of the coastline between Sumner and Godley Head," she said.

"LandSAR will also conduct a further search of an area near Taylors Mistake on Wednesday."

Residents in Scarborough and Sumner could expect to see an increased police presence in the area as the search continued, Carolan said.

Marley was seen in the suburb of Opawa before his disappearance and his car was later found in Sumner.

Police released CCTV footage which showed the teen wearing a light grey Adidas hoodie with white and black lettering, black shorts, black socks and burgundy Converse shoes.

Police, Land Search and Rescue, Coastguard Sumner, Fire and Emergency, Surf Lifesaving New Zealand and volunteers had all been involved in the search effort with boats and drones also used.

"If you see Marley, please call Police on 111, quoting the file number 250927/3331," Carolan said.
