The Situation
An active front over the Tasman Sea crosses the country today, bringing a strong northeasterly flow and periods of heavy rain. Tomorrow, the front moves away to the east, followed by showery northwesterlies.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Heavy rain and strong winds for many parts of New Zealand, including a Red Warning for Heavy Rain about parts of the Tasman District
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula
Rain. Heavy falls from late afternoon with thunderstorms and downpours possible, easing to isolated showers tonight.
Waikato to Taranaki
Rain with heavy falls, turning to showers tonight. Thunderstorms and hail possible in the west tomorrow.
Bay of Plenty and the central high country
Rain with heavy falls, possible thunderstorms and downpours, easing to isolated showers tomorrow morning.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa
Periods of rain, becoming fine tomorrow morning.
Whanganui to Wellington
Rain today. Showers tomorrow with possible afternoon thunderstorms for Kapiti.
Nelson and Marlborough
Rain with heavy falls, easing to showers tonight, clearing tomorrow evening.
Buller to Fiordland
Rain. Heavy falls, possible thunderstorms and hail from this evening.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Partly cloudy. Occasional rain, clearing early tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods. A few showers.

Sunday
North Island: Showers turning to rain for a time in the north and west. Partly cloudy elsewhere. South Island: Rain or showers from Buller to Westland. Mainly fine elsewhere.
Monday
North Island: Partly cloudy with showers for most, clearing and becoming fine in the evening. South Island: Showers in the west, turning to rain about Fiordland. Isolated showers in the east and south, clearing. Mainly fine elsewhere.
Tuesday
North Island: Rain or showers in the west. Isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain spreading north, then clearing later.
And at the Chathams
Rain easing to showers Sunday evening then turning to rain again early Tuesday. Strong northeasterlies, easing Monday then strengthening and turning easterly on Tuesday.
