Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Saturday
The Situation
A series of fronts move northeast across the North Island followed by a weak ridge of high pressure over New Zealand today. A subtropical low moves southwards tomorrow then deepens to the west of North Island later in the day, while a weakening front over the Tasman Sea approaches Fiordland.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Taranaki, across Taupo to Bay of Plenty, also Coromandel
Partly cloudy with isolated showers. Rain developing in Northland early tomorrow, with some heavy falls, then gradually spreading south. Rain easing to showers in Northland late.
Gisborne to Wairarapa
Isolated showers about Wairarapa spreading elsewhere this afternoon. Patchy drizzle tomorrow morning, then scattered rain developing late.
Whanganui and Taihape to Wellington
Partly cloudy, isolated showers clearing this afternoon. Scattered rain developing late tomorrow.
Buller to Westland, also Marlborough and Nelson
Partly cloudy with isolated showers about the ranges today. Scattered rain about Nelson and Marlborough late tomorrow.
Canterbury to Southland, also Fiordland
Mainly fine, isolated showers clearing this afternoon or evening, but patchy drizzle lingering about Canterbury foothills. Drizzle developing about coastal Canterbury tomorrow evening.
Chatham Islands
Rain clearing tonight. A few showers tomorrow.

Thursday
North Island: Rain with some heavy falls, easing to scattered showers in the morning. South Island: Rain in the north and east, with some heavy falls, easing later. Isolated showers elsewhere, clearing from Otago and Southland in the evening.
Friday
North Island: Scattered showers. South Island: Isolated showers in the west, turning to rain with some heavy falls for a time. Mainly fine elsewhere, but rain developing in the south during the afternoon, with scattered falls spreading to Canterbury and Marlborough later.
Saturday
North Island: Scattered showers, clearing the most later in the day. South Island: Rain in the west and south, easing to isolated showers. Scattered showers elsewhere, clearing late.
And at the Chathams
A few showers turning to rain early Friday. A few showers on Saturday, but clearing later. Strong northeasterlies, easing and turning westerlies on Saturday.
