Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday

The Situation

Today, a front over the east coast of the North Island moves east of the country. Meanwhile a low pressure system to the west of the country moves closer. Tomorrow, the low moves over the North Island followed by southerly flow.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

In the west from Northland to Taranaki, also Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

A few showers, becoming widespread and heavier today, and possible thunderstorms with hail. Showers easing tomorrow afternoon, then clearing at night.

Whanganui to Wellington, also Wairarapa

Showers, some heavy about Kapiti today. Showers becoming isolated tomorrow, but clearing in the west from Whanganui to Kapiti.

Gisborne and Hawke's Bay

Mainly fine today. Isolated showers developing this evening. Showers becoming widespread and possibly heavy for a time tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Nelson, Buller and Grey

Scattered showers, becoming isolated tomorrow but clearing about coastal Nelson.

Westland and Fiordland

Mainly fine.

Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland

Cloud increasing today. Scattered rain about coastal Otago, Marlborough and northern Canterbury, spreading elsewhere tomorrow.

Chatham Islands

Periods of rain, clearing tomorrow afternoon.

North Island: Mostly cloudy with showers in the east and south. Fine elsewhere. South Island: A few showers in Buller. Morning light rain in the east and south, clearing. Fine in Fiordland and Westland.

Monday

North Island: Cloudy and a few showers in the east. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Few showers in Buller, Grey and Westland. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Tuesday

North Island: Cloudy and a few showers in the east. Cloud increasing and isolated evening showers in Northland and Auckland. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Isolated showers about the west coast. Cloud increasing in the east, with a few showers later. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Cloudy periods, a few showers and southerly winds. Rain and strong southeasterlies on Tuesday.
